Tony
I agree with Jase and Astromark, keep an eye out in the Trading Post and on E-Bay (we all should). Even mention it to the barmen at your local pub and clubs. Make sure you give them a list of all the stolen items. I assume you've told the police. We had our office broken into several years ago. Only small items were stolen, but the police recovered virtually all of it.
I guess this is a warning to all of us that we should keep our gear under lock and key. It would also be worth finding out if your normal home insurance would cover astronomy gear, or whether you would have to get an extension of sorts.
Having someone invade your home and steal your property leaves a horrible sick feeling in your stomach. I really feel for you.

This makes me very sad Tony.
I hope it all turns out well for you mate.
I have my Astro gear insured as individual items on my policy. It would take me years to replace them if I didn't.
I learnt my lesson about insurance when some Mongrel low-lifes (I knew who they were) stole my vintage Harley Davidson I spent 3 years restoring. They stole it on the night I finally finished the restoration!!!! Unfortunately, in my case the police found it but could not get it back as the meat-heads had sent it to the USA!
I wish you well, and ALL your gear is either returned unharmed or replaced very quickly.

****ing lowlifes.
Will you contact other astro societies in SEQ and even over the border, and get them to keep an eye out for your gear as well.
As to who stole it, maybe the same ones who nicked those EP's at Astrofest that time.
Our old neighbour in Brissie, a chippie, had his trailer with all his work gear stolen. $50-60,000 worth. Taken about 2am. Police said that by the time he noticed it missing, it would have been sold at the markets.

Tony, I am sorry to hear of the theft of your astrogear, I hope you get it back soon or are recompensed.
I hate to say this, but could the thief be an astronomer who has watched this site, or has been to your place in the past, maybe the thread saying how much your gear is worth is not such a good idea afterall.

Hopefully you will get your gear back, and the Lowlife thieves, get what is coming to them,
Perhaps you could post the serial numbers,of all your gear,

You can get invisible ink pens which can only be seen under UV light. Most security/insurance places would have access to one of these, they simply put the state where your current drivers licence is held ie.. SA then put your Drivers Licence number after it. You can put it on everything and anything that you have. If you mention to the cops that you have done this then they can check. Also keep a list of what you have and the amount it cost you.
You can actually see the ink yourself but you have to be on the right angle

With all you have lost tony I hope you still have the knowledge and beauty
of what youv'e seen with you , they shouldn't of found that ,or even be able to ever see it if it was right there in front of them.
hope this works out for the best m8, word out to our o/s friends might help
our comunity down under is very small .
Maybe a local supplier or two could grab a phone number to get back to
if someone rings trying to find out a little info about your scope /equip?
its unlikely these toerags even know what they got yet but will likely try to find out !!
take care ns

Problem with tracking down the gear is that the thieves could be organised, targeted your gear, and have a market organised for it (like Ken's Harley), or they are some pathetic drug dependant kids who would flog it to anyone who will give them ten bucks for it.

Tony, dont know what to say thats not already been said.
Ive always thought astro gear is a strange thing to steal, such a limited resellers market. Or who would say to all their astro mates - come round and see all the new gear Ive just got, its had a good review on IIS.
Hang in there mate
Chris.

10 mins alone with the thieves with a big stick with nails sounds like a good punishment if they get caught.
Keep your chin up Tony, don't let the mungrels get you down.

Thats a great offer Phil but there is no way I would accept any money off anyone (accept my insurance company) this was partly my fault and take full responsibility. Its a great gesture Phil but I wont allow anyone donating there hard earned cash to my cause.
This is for me to sought out with my insurance and if all goes well I have my gear back but if there not intersted then I will buy a cheap mount and scope and start again with DSLR imaging.

D1ck Smith have an excellent coma free ED 60mm refractor for $38.00 sorry couldn't help myself .
I agree with Tony, let him sought it out with the insurance company first, then we buy him the refractor, and some duct tape to mount in on his pier! sorry did it again
you could always add a moat around the tardis, fill it with white pointers (may or may not be shark variety), and electrify the door handle (worked on home alone).
Seriously, I think this should be taken as an expensive educational experience, that we may all unfortunately learn from your mistake Tony, and improve security, and either make that decision to insure or not to insure our equipment.
I personally think that it was deliberately targeted by an individual/s who specifically knew what they were after and as was said above, had a market. we will never know. There cannot be that many CCD's of that type in Australia, so it may be within Australian waters still or gone that very day to destinations unknown OS?
