Surely with the End-of-Financial-Year around the corner many Finance Managers are not approving requests for new stock.

Iain, I would separate the scope and mount first, before considering
breaking down even further, so you might have to wait a while for the electric focuser. If I do get to that point I will PM you to see if you are still in need of one.

Makes sense Raymo. Keep me in mind if you decide to split, thanks.
p.s. Maybe your classified is cold because everyone wants you to stay?

Pouring capital into observatory atm... rending my skin over some stuff I have had to leave alone. The pain!

That's a nice thought Iain, although I very much doubt that it is true.

Raymo, just put a Tak sticker on your gear, triple your price, and post new photos, it will sell right away.

You will need to paint the focuser as well ......
The problem is that recent sales by Televue, Ricoh/Pentax et al have drained many wallets including mine. People are also moving away from EQ mounted reflectors as the swing toward 4" refractors for visual continues.
I see that even very fine Tak scopes are sitting on the classifieds, with people choosing to spend on new mass produced Chinese scopes instead.
I generally don't respond to ads where a price is not displayed such as 'open to offers' or 'EOI'. I regard these as auctions and stay out of them.
I have also noted that we as a community don't do much to welcome newcomers into it. Many introduction posts by new members go days without anyone saying Welcome. It is these newcomers who usually buy the more common equipment like HEQ5 and 6" or 8" newts, maks etc.

I just had a clear out of 7 or 8 things and they all sold quickly. I wasn't trying to squeeze every last cent out of the deal. I did have popular items though that generally sell fairly easy.
I've been waiting patiently for more TMB Supermonocentrics to appear on Astromart, but I think everyone is holding them while planet season is in full swing. It will be interesting to see if they start popping up more frequently in a couple of months.

I agree Matt, but in respect to this thread i find they have already bought something, whether good for their purpose or not, and are seeking advice, etc. Allan_l is good at the welcome threads, better than i would be, and he always makes an effort.

Being a relatively new and inexperienced member myself, I most certainly agree. Some of the members here have been excellent in sharing their knowledge and giving advice to newcomers but in my own personal experience they are the exception rather than the rule.
I've made several posts on IIS which to the more experienced players in the field would sound completely ridiculous and stupid. Some were answered, some were not. Most newcomers would prefer being told that they are wrong and be set on the right path than to not receive any feedback at all.
Share the knowledge and embrace the future.

Just bought something from an IIS'er.
It was posted yesterday, consequently today it's raining with showers expected for the next week...
Almost make me hope that AusPost does it's normal thing by delivering me the parcel next month... *almost*

Perhaps the experts are suffering from ' teaching fatique' and are avoiding getting into another high maintenance conversation. I have seen that happen on another forum i frequent, people stop helping because they get asked the same things over and over and no one bothers with searching for the answer which is covered in previous threads.
Don't be too hard on these experts.

Another possible reason for lack of sales is that hoarders like me are running out of space.

There could be another reason apart from repetition - lack of coutesy. IIS is somewhat better than most other forums I visit, but not by much.
I take the view that if someone is courteous enough to respond to a thread I started, a response or thanks is the courteous thing to do in return - and I do it on this and every other forum I visit, always replying to every response made directly to me on a thread I started. That doesn't often happen with other thread starters, and one's enthusiasm wanes after continually responding to questions for little apparent reason in terms of feedback.
Is it really a genuine "community" when people don't act as they would in a face-to-face community?
Regards,
Renato

Very true Renato.
It's considered common courtesy to acknowledge and respond to someone that tries to answer and help out.
Sadly though, this is not always the case.

You're right. Though I realise the market for top end gear in Aus is small, I'm a bit surprised I've had no (sensible) nibbles for my TOA-150 setup. Not even any queries or requests. I think the rule is just to be patient.

You got that right. Even when you put a very fair price on to start with.
Folks also need to understand that breaking up a package / system can lead to a lot of hassle for the seller and/or difficulty selling the remnant items.

There are a hundred things I'd like to buy but this is the slowest time of year for me financially; I've already got more work booked in October than I had this month. Add to that the approaching end of financial year, closely followed by tax time, and many sole traders like myself have little to no spare cash for non-claimable expenses - particularly not after spending $2k+ in April.
It's killing me because there are loads of great deals at the moment. That little RC6 ad got a lot of visits from me before the seller (understandably) pulled it down in frustration.

I'm at the stage that my next upgrade is going to be significant in the DSO camera area. And in reality I can't afford it for a while. Lots of nice goodies on here but unless I have a real need for something it gets a pass from me. I' love to collect a few older retro scopes, a Polarex ( Unitron) 60mm over here I'd love as a showpiece and viewing option but I need those $$$ for my next cooled ASI buy.
I also have the added cost of shipping across the ditch and exchange rate between Aus\NZ so local pricing in an even smaller market can be attractive. I scan the For Sale section most days just in case though. Temptation can be tough ..
And just had to replace the car as well ... it just goes on.
