No, eyepieces are not dead.Currently sitting at my alleged dark site ( gently being lightened by cloud) and selecting some eyepieces to use on a 12 inch newt.

I love photon gathering on a ccd, the detail you can acquire is awesome, but I also want to be able to just grab some scope time and look for once.

Surfing through the guttenburg project for something for the kindle and I came across a book called pleasures of the telescope, written in 1902 and undoubtedly the source of the refractor v reflector argument. However as an example, the writer takes you through Orion and calls out a huge number of things to observe and explore at the eyepiece so feeling a little bit enthused at the moment.

Plus those televues look the dogs nuts.. ( in the market for a 26mm Nagler V if anyone has one.. )
