Are you telling us you have never had any problems with Courier/transport companies? because I sure damn well have.
I have had over the last 45 years in Aus much better service from Australia Post than transport companies, both in my job which I dealt with quite a few courier/transport companies and in my private citizen life.
Cheers

I'm afraid so Ron .... my experience with any Couriers I've used has been ' top notch ' 100% on delivery and absolutely no loss or damage to goods...and prices are very reasonable.
Aust' Post on the other hand needs no explaining once you have been ' repeatedly ' duped on price / loss or damaged items / and woeful delivery times.
I can only speak of my experiences and others have come out and agreed they to have had the same treatment.
I definitely know how you feel regarding your Courier experiences...it's frustrating, upsetting and really gets under your skin......on the other hand, mine is on the other side of the fence with Aust' Post.
....on another note....I totally agree with comments from Hagar ( Doug ) ...I will never go anywhere near Telstra ....repeated ' bunglings ' from this Company many many years ago...and they still haven't changed according to what I hear even today.
We win some, and we loose some ....but we learn who we can trust.
Cheers ...

Col,
Maybe you could have worded that ......... "I've learnt who I can trust" .........I say that as I've never had problems with AP but have numerous issues with courier companies, particularly with work related items.........ie: at various times, two out of three shipments from an online Sydney based company somehow managed to be eventually found , not here in Newcastle, but in Perth, 4 to 6 weeks after going missing.
Back when I was importing a lot of musical/studio gear from the US, for smaller items it was impossible to beat the service between the US Postal Service and AP, for larger items (instruments, etc), DHL were without peer. At that time, the horror stories about both FedEx and UPS were found all over the www.
Now obviously, you've had vastly different experiences BUT, I have to ask........apart from venting on IIS which ultimately, will achieve SFA, what actions have you taken to make your frustrations known to people who might just make a difference........like maybe writing to your local "member", etc.

I have contacted Aust' Post on numerous occassions regarding these matters....they have a ' standard ' response .... we'll look into this and get back to you.
I've waited and waited and waited and waited and waited....finally I am the one who has to ' chase ' them up....oh...we have you in the queue, it won't be long......months go by....nothing.
Go to the ' link ' I have provided in my 1st post.....plenty of customers have gone the 2nd mile to find out and correct AP incompetence with the loss of goods mounting to a lot of money.
My recent dealings were....my article was ' scanned ' at the PO where I handed it over.....and it was never seen again.
In fact....I have even gone to their tracking site ( this is 7 weeks after I posted it ) and reentered the ' tracking no' and it reads......in transit ....yet AP has closed my ' case ' of lost mail 4 weeks ago.
When a ' successful ' delivery turns up at my door.....I see a different ' mail contractor ' ...who knows what their work ethic is like.
If they continue down the road with this sort of attitude towards their customers and not be held responsible for the ' Articles ' held in their possession for the customers until they are delivered......it will only get worse.
Years ago when AP lost a ' parcel ' of radio parts I posted to a Tasmanian address....I ended up talking to Jim Webber ( local member where I lived )....he could only talk to them on my behalf....but nothing came of it. ...and it's still the same today.
If you bite the hand that feeds you ...it has consequences
I really don't need to answer any more questions regarding what have I done to remedy AP's conduct ....they take little or no notice of me as one individual.

I receive regular shipments via DHL, UPS and Fedex.
Fedex is automatic, seamless, UPS a bit clunky but workable, DHL is a nightmare, I spend 2-3 hrs a month fighting incorrect charges (import charges are also much higher than anyone else), misallocated payments, wrong "Dunning" final demands, the help desk email for a while at one stage even bounced as "not recognised address"!. It takes weeks to get a wrong charge correction (GST, duty etc), Fedex and UPS sort these issues out in an hr or less.
Point is, with any courier company incl Aust post, it gets down to the local branch/depot/delivery guy IMO, pot luck. None of these companys are universally terrible, or they wouldnt last in a competitive market place. Aust post deliver anywhere in OZ, most international couriers dont want to know about remote or outback deliveries, so they contract the last leg out, that adds risk and grief.
Also, once you have (and use) a regular account with a courier company, you get the attention of an account manager who sorts trouble out for you.
No account one off randoms get no help at all. Its tough but thats just the way it is.

Well that is not my current situation ........... USPS managed to get my item to Sydney in 4 days !!!!
That was on 24.11.15 .......... Now Friday the 4th of December and no sign of it...... 10 days and counting...
I get the feeling Australia Post have more staff stealing mail than delivering mail.
Another parcel sent from Melbourne on Monday to Canberra still no sign and according to their tracking it is still at the originating Post Office in Drouin....

I think they're just slow this time of year Matt - I sent another package the same day to Adelaide and it hasn't been delivered yet.
That said, we ordered a package from Melbourne a week ago (one hour drive away) and it hasn't arrived - not good service.

I had 4 cards in my P.o. Box yesterday for parcels. Went to collect the items and they can only find 3 parcels, they have lost the fourth parcel.

I heard a rumour recently that the Aust Post Xmas Party this year is going to be held at Coonabarabran, apparently they now have enough astro gear to make a decent event of it ................

Having used a number of carriers to ship things out... lets say we only trust AusPost for non-urgent items that are not that fragile.
Can't help it if the other side sends things via AusPost. One major supplier uses StarTrack and they're alright, usually on time because they have the one guy who comes in at around 2pm; pretty much can set your watch to it.
Though they did lose parcels, or they got delayed because they got on the wrong truck. One of our shipments had an unscheduled vacation in Adelaide before very belatedly arriving at our premises.
And have business insurance. Anything could go wrong. Once we had a courier leave a 6" Dob out in the rain, on the porch because the customer wasn't home. And he wasn't home for quite awhile so anyone could have nicked it.
It came out okay, but that wasn't pleasant for the customer!

So far the only services that I have had no issues with have been DHL and Pack&Send (when dealing with the local franchise directly).
USPS tracking stops once the item reaches the destination country and unfortunately it is then handed over to Aust Post who don't seem to give a rat's RRRs
I would like to see the Germans take over Aust Post, or better still the Swiss..........

Just thought I would add my bit. Generally I have found AusPost pretty reliable and fast, although that may be changing. I recently had not received my monthly copy of Silicon Chip magazine and so contacted the SC office. The friendly lady apologized and indicated that AusPost's service had declined in standard. She had been told by AusPost that they would have to pay more for shipping to receive the same service that they had been receiving previously. SC sent me a replacement copy of the magazine and eventually I received my original copy almost a month late. Make of that what you will.

Well my missing parcel (well 1 of 4 that I am awaiting) arrived on Saturday afternoon. 12 days from Sydney to Canberra. The A/P contractor said they are really flat out at the moment.
Now waiting for a JapanPost item that took 4 days from Osaka to Sydney, I am sure Customs and Aust Post will stretch that to Xmas.

Yesterday I bought an item which according to the description was standard delivery, but the seller said they were going to send it express (same price for me). I wonder if it is because they think it will be treated a bit better express? Sellers ultimately have to pay for AusPost's losses. The reviews on FB are really terrible, the worst reviews in the world for a postal service, and AusPost CEO at the same time is the best paid in the world??? Oh, and prices are going up again in January, while at the same time letters will take longer to arrive.
