I sometimes go to Thornleigh Macs I think where head office resides.
You see all the young mac marketing execs running around all very smart and professional.
I can imagine their meetings where to survive I suspect one needs to come up with new marketing ideas.
Forget in that environment pleasing the customer as at that level it is about new ideas as to how to sell burgers such that the franchise benefits.
I can imagine the pressure to put compete your fellow marketing execs.
I propose that it is such an environment that allows crazy ideas to get air.
Expanding the product line and introducing new systems I suggest comes from here.
The goal of any business should be to increase profit. At the individual shop level it must be a nightmare having to accommodate the latest marketing fad.
The individual shop owners have no say as to any new fad from head office each of which erode profit.
I can see why seats may not be replaced or less funding to cleaning staff when you have to retool to meet the latest fad...the screen menu must have cost heaps increasing capital cost as well as labour. Whose dumb idea was it to give table service as the design yourself burger is delivered to the customer st their table.
I was in a franchise for a very short time and have experienced a head office introducing a new (totally inappropriate idea for my location) marketing campaign that I would have to shell out a levy in addition to 10 percent of my turnover for the priveledge of being in their most wonderful group.
That was in real estate.
I got out ran as an independent and was always ahead of my competition because I could implement marketing ideas for my location which were better and had no levy

C'mon, you arent thinking anywhere near big enough to mix it with them.
Why not an app that orders your sludge burger from the car, and then constantly sends your gps coords to McChuck so that they can then deliver direct to your moving car with a drone drop through the sunroof.
Love to see how long it takes before the seagulls learn to attack the drones :-)

Just a new experience to add. Sort of echoes sentiment that has already been expressed.

I was in the unfortunate situation recently of Maccas being about the only lunch option I had time for, I was also in need of a stretch so I parked and went into the store.

First up, they are really pushing the use of the new kiosks to order, even for "off the shelf" stuff. So much so that when I walked in I was fronted by a staff member "May I take your order at the kiosk sir"?

I declined and went to the counter, only to have another staff member front me "May I take your order at the kiosk sir"? so I gave in and let them do it. You have to suspect that they are intending to get us used to using them so they can drop staffing levels.

The upshot, it took longer for a well versed staff member (In contrast to myself, someone who dislikes the self serve concept at places like this and steadfastly refuses to use it) to take my order at the kiosk than it normally normally would at the counter, and I still did not get what I asked for! The number of steps and pokes and swipes at a screen with your finger involved in ordering an off the shelf meal with a small addition (Jalapenos on my quarter pounder, which she muffed and they did not materialize) would send me out the door if that is the future of Maccas.

Self service I could see some benefit in if the reduced staffing released staff members from menial jobs to do something more interesting, but I am as sure as anyone else they are just a way to bump staff out the door and reduce costs, and you can bet that the cost reduction will not come back into the customers pocket.

That's interesting Paul.
Whoever is their sales line inventor is hopeless.
Would you like your coffee from here or the cafe was insulting as it was clearly a "canned" sales pitch same with...would you like fries with that.
I have stuck to my guns and not gone back...I feel so good better than giving up smoking.
For my trip I took 3 ltrs of milk and a salads I invented for the trip and some smoked salmon.
Found nice spot by the river it was so nice.
