Here in Mackay, if you have a tree on your property you just call the tree lopper and get it cut down or you do it yourself if you have the expertise. The council seems to have no rules regarding residential trees. The council has a register for specific important trees to protect them but that is it.
I have a huge paperbark tree that blocks 40% of my sky but the last quote it cut it down was $4000, so it will stay for a while. At least it is to the east so eventually everythig comes into view.
The people across the road had a large gum that was leaning badly towards the road. The council would not touch it because it was on private land. Last year during a storm it finally fell over, the council workers cut it up that evening and came back the next day to grind out the stump. It saved our neighbour over $2000.
