I was actually able to run my hands over the AZEQ6 in Orion trim today. They may well suffer from a little by way of tuning issues, worms needing cleaning etc, but I have to say that engineering wise they are a big step forwards over the EQ5/6 designs. Just the Alt adjustment alone is a huge step.

Still on the wishlist, and I am still looking at remounting the tube I have rather than selling it. Why sell a scope I am happy with to go and take lucky dip on getting a good or average one to buy a new stand alone OTA to replace it?

We've had an AZEQ6 for some time. Very happy with it. It has an old 8" SCT mounted on it which Irene uses for imaging.

It's a tad heavy for Irene to set up, but she's never out without me so that doesn't really matter.

So far, can't fault it.

I am hoping it comes off for me and I can snaffle one in the next handful of weeks.

Having played with getting PA right on someone else's EQ6, I reckon the improvement just in the altitude adjustment is worth the price premium. But the entire mount has a better made feel to it.

Bit the bullet and got the orion AZEQ G (orion version of the AZEQ 6)

I put a couple of scratches on the ota de forking it but nothing that worries me.

The new mount is pretty intuitive to use, having rough polar aligned it and played with it in the garage, looking forward to first light at snake valley.
