The problem with going to the zoo, is that you end with too many animal shots.. makes it very hard to choose which one to enter

Every person I showed the photos to, chose a different favourite. Made it very hard to decide You can see my rejects in another thread coming soon.

Here's what I ended up with.. I just love big cats.

350D + 75-300mm lens @ 135mm, ISO100, f/5.6, handheld @ 1/160s through glass.

Taken 3rd September 2006 at Taronga Zoo.

We had planned to take our family to the zoo last week too.
Kids loved it. My wife and I of course where exhusted by the end.

I was lucky enough to grab this shot of the tiger when it was feeding.
Difficult shot because there was a huge crowd and I had to shoot handheld from the back of the group and through the plate safety glass.

Australian Pelican

Hello,

The Australian Pelican from SeaWorld (Gold Coast), 18th September 2006. Minolta DiMage 7Hi. 100ASA, 135mm fl, 1/350s at f6.7. Resampled from original “Fine” 2560x1920 jpg down to 1024x833 jpg at 30% compression. Border added in Corel PhotoPaint 12.

Couldn't quite capture a decent photo of the Polar Bears or Dolphins.

Cheers

Dennis

Japanese Macaque (snow) monkeys from the Launceston monkey Island. Many of the monkeys carry the Herpes B virus, which is relatively harmless to them but can be fatal to humans. Some years ago, the Launceston City Council, which owns the colony, decided to have the monkeys put down. The public were enraged at the councils proposal to put down the monkeys so the council launched a fund raising appeal to build a new safer enclosure for these animals and they were saved are still with us today.

I took this about a year ago when the lazy bugger was enjoying some late afternoon sunshine. I used my Nikon FM3a and Fuji Velvia 50 film.

I've run out of time trying to get the shot I really wanted, so on the basis of All Creatures Great and Small, here is a small one. A green reed frog (Litoria fallax). As a comparison with the big cats, at about 200kg each, this one weighs about 5gm in my estimation, or 1/40,000th of the weight.

300D with 100mm macro lens: 1/200 sec @ f13, with flash infill.
Taken Sept 2nd 06

Regards,

Mike
