Hello fellow sufferers,

A snippet of info that was given me by a pharmacist: The body becomes less responsive to antihistamine medicines with prolonged use. Its best to change occasionally.

Also I found that my allergies to grass pollens extended to cereal foods. I had asthma attacks etc. Then I tried a low carb weight loss diet. The improvement was incredible. I still consume cereal foods but much less now.
Beer also instigates an attack. However I have an antihistamine before I party now and no problems.

Cheers

That's amazing.

It's bad enough drowsiness-wise by itself, but mixing with alcohol is worse. I once made the mistake of having a glass of beer a couple of hours after taking the Polaramine - it left me feeling totally drugged out for a few hours, in a very unpleasant manner.
Regards,
Renato

Interestingly no one tried or mentioned acupuncture?
My wife told me about her family friend in Melbourne who had hay fever so severe that no medication could help her. She went to many doctors and allergists without success. So she decided to try acupuncture as a last resort and after just a few sessions she didn't have any attacks since!

I did some research online about it and there are evidence that it could help. The only problem, bloody needles I hate them

It took me a while to do blood test for allergy. And they couldnt find what is causing it. Very high is more than 17.51 kU/L and I have unknown allergen 155! Thats more than 8 times very high. No wonder I feel so bad when it attacks me

Some of the hayfever medicine like Polarmine can have completely opposite side effects wrt drowsiness. I always treat any that say "non drowsy" until I've tried them myself several times. I've had some that either make me sleep for hours or prevent me from sleeping.

Polarmine doesn't seem to make me as drowsy as it use to, but I'm cautious. Phenargan has always made me drowsy.

Like others have mentioned, I've had to switch types occasionally as they become ineffective.

Here's some extra ideas to help with managing hayfever/sinus that I've heard and use:

* Wash your skin and hair more frequently to remove pollens and dust.
* Use skin moisturiser/creams to provide a slight barrier.
* Drink more (non alcoholic) <-- this is good in general anyway, but I'm not sure the reasoning - maybe it's part of the whole connected nose/throat thing and it helps clear away the dust and pollen?
