As Brian said, Perth seems in the clear. There was some high cloud coming in from the S/SW earlier but that seems to be clearing up. At the moment its nice and sunny. I will be observing with a borrowed PST and will take plenty of photos. Hope the weather is good elsewhere.

Do you need special glasses for this partial eclipse? I didn't think you needed them for solar eclipses but someone just told me you do.

Sorry for the dumb question.

Blue sky is emerging in Adelaide now - looking good

of course sydney is clouded over just like the lunar eclipse and the venus transit. Im not holding my breath in seeing the 2028 solar eclipse.

the cloud over Vic / Tas resembles a Venusian cloud system, no chance.

will it get to Sydney? touch and go, still a good chance of seeing it. Radelaide looks fairly good too and Brisvegas.

Looking forward to seeing your happy snaps

Yes you do!
You always need solar viewing glasses to look at the sun even during an eclipse. The only exception to this is for the brief period during a total eclipse when the moon is completely in front of the sun.

I agree Sydney has missed out on many recent astro events but I had quite good views of the transit of Venus from Sydney, sure there was patchy cloud but also plenty of clear gaps.

Shame because I was very keen on trying out a particular foreground too :-)
Southern Tassie slowly submerging under rain... which means it may very well be fine and sunny in 30 minutes!!

Still a half chance in Sydney for views through the high cloud rolling in, but it's marginal. Am hoping to get a view in an hour from the city. Maybe better chances NE? Adelaides cleared on the satellite, even a very small chance for areas west of about Geelong, depending on the speed of the back edge of the front and the showers behind. Very very low chance for Melbourne about sunset, but only if the sky is clear behind the front...

I just discovered my old Kendrick soar filter has quite a number of pinholes, so got the eclipse shades ready instead. Fingers crossed...

From my balcony the clouds on the horizon aren't solid. There's a chance!

Lots of low cloud and some high stuff too, might be lucky with this one but only a slight partial here in Mackay. Heading out to shoal point waters estate there is a gap in the ranges that nearly go to the horizon. Pics at 6.00, hopefully. Good luck all.
