No, is no plaster. Is a bi component silicone for moulding. Because my difficults with the english, better a video of this material.

As you can see here, the moulding silicone does not adhere to objects, just fill in the gaps. To center the mirror without play, it would be better a metal tube, but obviously the silicone is cheaper...

Great. I used stainless steel on min. A 3mm thick sleeve and bonded it to the glass with red silicon. I migh try this stuff instead. Do you know where to get it from?

I not sure that I have undertood your message Are you asking about where you can find the silicone for moulding?. Here in Spain I have several suppliers, but no near 18000Km. far of my home

Celestron use moulding silicone because after it secure the mirror with the special nut and washer of cork. Your solution with the metalic sleeve bonded to the mirror with silicone is OK; for me is not the best solution (each engineer have a different idea, you know) because I like to have the open door to a step down, and the mirror bonded with the red silicone is fixed forever...

Lets go... Is a very common product. If you write "liquid silicone" on google you will obtain a lot of suppliers. In Amazon
(example http://www.amazon.com/QSil-Clear-Liq.../dp/B005RYI7C2)
Ebay
(example http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Strengt...3D370875484667)

Is a very cheap product, used for moulding ... uf, my poor english...the "like stone engraved concrete", gypsum decoration ceiling (http://0.static.wix.com/media/20d1fa...95.wix_mp_1024). Sure that in your town you can find a supplier! I see two type of silicone: two liquids for mixing 1:1 and for mixing 1:10 to 1:25. I used only this last.

A secret tip Do you know the special "no play" grease that the telescope builders put in to the focusers? Is this silicone, but without mixing with the catalyst
