Thank you very much everone for oyour encouragements and advice since I have been an Ice in Space member. And thank you Mike for selecting the picture! I never though that one of my pictures would one day make it to ITOW. What a surprise!

Brent, I hope you'll get to use your new camera very soon.

Cheers,

Eric

First image where it actually feels like I'm flying over the moon in a space ship. Great work!

Thank you for the compliment Stuart. However, I was very lucky to be a the right place and at the right time.

It's funny because I took a lot of AVIs that night due to the good seeing, and when I reviewed them, I didn't really notice this one as being a potentially interesting one.

I have always had problems with imaging the south pole due to the blurring section I normally get close to the limb. But I always give it a go when I can.

When I processed the image, I couldn't believe how clear it was and thought it was worth posting.

Cheers,

Eric

EricB,

May have to use that strategy soon.... LOL So, a question I asked in another thread; Do I need to autoguide the mount or could this kind of result be obtained from an unguided mount/scope? Thanks.

Unguided, You need a planet or solar system cam like the Image source DMK 21AU618 or ZWO ASI 120MM or a DSLR using "movie mode". Just record a short video file to capture say 6000 frames, then use a program like Autostakkert or Registax to stack the best 10% or 15%.

As I do al lot of my moon imaging around dusk, I don't do any alignment. I get away with manual tracking (ie using the synscan paddle of my goto mount to "keep up" with the moon). There is inevitably some wobble in my AVIs as a result, but as long as it not too much, it's generally fine.
