I do not like soccer at all, but I do know that it is a skillfull game with a Massive world-wide following, and I applaude them for that.

As most of you know, I am a Rugby League fanatic and proud of it! I played in 7 Rugby Union Grand Finals (and we won all 7) and was even selected to play for Australia in the Under 16's!!! But I still prefer Rugby League.

I did not jump on the Soccer Bandwagon coz I don't like the game but congrats to the Aussies for doing so well. I won't bag their game, I just choose not to watch it.

On the local side of matters, we have a hard time here in Victoria trying to promote Rugby League, but even Aussie Rules has been suffering with the closure of 2 Clubs in Ballarat due to a loss of players switching to Soccer. And this is not because of the World Cup! This happened 2 years ago and a 3rd Club may be folding next year. Geez, with even Aussie Rules suffering in Aussie Rules Land, what hope have we got with Rugby League getting bigger in Victoria

State of Origin next week in Melbourne may spark a temporary interest but it will fade.

Ken is this adults or kids being lost to soccer?
I hear that a lot of it is rooted in over protective mums steering kids away from the more manly sports ( ) for fear of their little precious ones getting hurt on the field.

Kids Geoff.

Although I must admit (with a smile) that we gained quite a few kids this year over last year!

That's disappointing Mike.

I thought I put a lot of thought into my responses to what were some fairly inflammatory comments/remarks

It was going nowhere Matt. It served no purpose to see you two arguing in public. It was just going to escalate so I'm stopping it now.

Sorry to lock your thread Scott but I think it had reached it's shelf life.
