The joys of Astronomy, isn't it allways the way i know how you feel Ken, i was imaging last night with the Film camers for a change, and you gessed it, it was that cold that the camera froze.
Although the shutter realeased something inside stayed firmly closed, and i got nothing, ah well, try again tonight, cant waste those -2 degrees nights, can we Ken.

Good News!

I have fixed the mount already!!!!!!!

Started at 9:30 am and just finished at 4pm.

Daylight this morning showed me it wasn't 3 bolts sheared off. It was the press fit retainer that the bolts go into. It loosened itself and spun in the housing. Like a slipping clutch in a car. Still not an easy fix but easier than what I thought it was. Because it is not a tight 'press fit' now, I drilled in sideways and bolted it, locking it into place. Now it tracks again.

While I had the mount apart I also took care of a few other modifications I wanted to do.

As far as the Toucam goes, the casing is broken but it still works perfectly

My optics: well they will have to wait till tomorrow or the next day for cleaning. I am worn out.

Thanks to everyone for your comments.

Guaranteed tonight will be perfect skies again and I still have filthy optics.

My head is fine thanks Vingo. Didn't feel a thing. It was too frozen to feel the pain.

I can belive that Ken after being in Mildura for the last 4 days ( I froze my butt off up there) and if it was cold there it would have been even colder at your place.

i am laughing so hard and thought i could hear the cries of anguish across bass strait!!

honestly mate that is a fantastic setup, and the best bit is the amount of work you have put in and the fun the kids have had with dad long the way.

the next 12 months and this scope are going to produce some fantastic images!

hi Ken,

Glad you got it sorted, sounded like a big job, shame those clouds came in early last night, spoiled my night too.

And by the way i managed to wreck the small fan and hairdryer last night as well, tripped over them, and away they went, hit the deck, both buggered.
Ah well the joys of it all, catch up soon.

Leon
