Its funny how the red necks come out when this comes up. The Law is not perfect and the parole system isn't either. However it's very hard to come up with real workable change.

More people die on our roads these people are just as deserving of justice as any other victim. Should we have the death sentence for a driver that kills someone because their speeding, not paying attention and drink driving?

It's easy to get on a message board and rant about the system, much harder to offer consider changes.

Australia has perhaps the best leagle system in the world and we certainly do not need to bring back the death penalty.
The crimes act prescribed appropriate penalties however it would seem these offer only a guide in sentencing. Once the crime is proven the penalties in the act should be followed rather than being watered down for one reason or another. So my suggestion is to follow the law rather than submissions as to why the defendant is not such a bad fella and deserving of consideration which are irrelevant to the crime committed.

We have judges who are appointed because of their knowledge of the LAW,and as such Judge the cases on the law and all aspects of the case.
NOT on Emotion and the call of the public for retribution,in the old way of *An Eye for Eye".
As we know the media beat up things and most of the time and do not take into account a lot of other parts of the case.
Let the Judges do the judging and not heed the call of the Mob.
Nobody is perfect, and as such judges and the parole boards can get things wrong, but you will probably find that in a big percentage of the time they are Right.
Even the best can be conned,as it has been shown on this site in the past.
Cheers
