I must say I agree with you Ron.

To me, it reads like the publisher/powers-that-be talking the whole change up and trying to "sell" the deal up.

I for one, as a subscriber, am not happy.

Will the bi-monthly version be bigger (more pages)? I doubt it.

Will it be any more timely or stronger in other ways than it's previous monthly version? We'll have to wait and see but my feeling is, again, no.

This simply smacks of some kind of cutback or cost-cutting measure that we're being told is good for us.

These are all my subjective opinions, by the way.

There are some nice articles but very little observational astronomy, it is a good forum for getting iceinspace members photo's published, but as a true astronomy magazine it leaves a lot to be desired.
This will be my last issue purchased
Aussie sky and telescope
My main complaint would be the lack of observational astronomy and me thinks they spend too much time on space history, I didn't buy this months issue.

Sky and space
My main complaint is it is never on time

The solution. Merge, become monthly and rename the new mag australian telescope and space

For your information, I have subscribed to AS&T, S&S, A, and S&T and have been known to get AN, and CA, so everything is covered. Failing that could use the www

I agree the result is cost cutting. The market in Australia will struggle to support one monthly mag... even bi-monthly will be tight, let alone with 2 mags. This is why parent S&T is no longer sold at newsagents... to assist the viability of the new mag. (Also why S&S lead a concerted campaign to eliminate Southern Sky) John NAlly will put a spin on it, but economics lies at the roots.

On another note, S&S ALWAYS had a problem being on time, even when John was editor. Again the roots are economics, no matter how many times the (a) printers/offices burnt down, (b) problems with the printer, (c) moved premises, (d) dog ate the proofs, (e) Mars on a cusp with Saturn in Leo. Australia is a small market and Australian mags will suffer.

Too much bad blood between Lyle Rumble and John Nally for that to happen. The content is determined by the licence from S&T... a certain amount has to be bought from the US and sources of quality aussie material is scarce.

A solution for any short comings is to write articles for publication. You might get some pocket money and there will be more local content. Another thing will be support... if no-one buys the mag, they don't have enough money to print.

I'm not saying you have to buy this mag or that, but if we don't support what we've got, we won't have it for long.

I can quite easily live with out S+S and AS+T its no hassle. It is upto those two magazines to get their act together. Maybe the Editors of the two mag's should have their heads banged together, we don't care about politics or personalities, we just want a locally produced and viable local mag. Otherwise I am going back to Astronomy

I saw S&S in the newsagents, I am still waiting for my Subscribers copy, normally you would think you get that before it hits the shelves. It has never been that way!
