Ah yep. I bought mine at the end of 2011 but not sure how long it was out before that.

Thanks everyone for all the help and you all have been helpful, it is nice to hear all the different opinions. Now I'm thinking of a new scope as well!! It is addictive isn't it!

I've just read the Backyard Astronomer's book as well and thought it was pretty good in conjunction with other material I've read (like online forums, tutorials, etc).

I also read A Beginner's Guide to DSLR Astrophotography which again was useful too.

Because I'm currently starting out with using telescopes, I'm currently keeping with DSLR to image with first as I'm familiar with them and therefore reduce some of the steep learning curve. I do intend progressing to CCD later for various reasons. Anyway, I guess my point here is that I can see there's a lot to learn so it might be worth being a little cautious about the number of "variables" that are introduced that will impact your learning time/curve.
