Wow, the detail in the GRS is amazing. Looks like you've got some white spots in the GRS.

That seeing had to be better than 6/10! Amazing shot, well done.

I can see you are a Celestron man through and through.

The C8 shots have more colour and are more pleasing to the eye than the bland Meade SCT 14, where Jupiter looks like a wind swept desert, could be looking at Mars for all I know.

I can see a bias against Meade comming in here. Think we need a Good Victorian AFL umpire to blow his whistle.

But on the other hand I really like what you are doing with the C8 Mate.

Goes to show that good seeing conditions are more important than aperture. Meade 14" shot at 2-3/10 seeing and Celestron 8" at 7-8/10.

Hi Lester. Nah no bias here; I'd use anything with good optics, the name means nothing.

A good victorian umpire.....Don't make me laugh

when are you guys going to venture into optimized colour mode???

http://www.astrosurf.com/astrobond/ebrawe.htm

there is a new update for the 900nc, rob_t is using it. It is still colour, you can go 5 or 10fps, but i find it better than standard mode on the toucams

DP

I've dowloaded this pdf for upgrading the Pro II.

Will this serve the same purpose?

I think it's a little easier to understand.

Why bother If I'm getting shots like these? Seeing is king.

Very interesting..

that is a nice simple write up. There are two things you can do to your toucam.

1. load macros into the toucam (both 840k & 900nc) to allow for raw colour mode and also optimized colour.
2. convert your 840k into a 900nc, by loading the 900nc binaries into the 840k

Both processes use wcrmac to load the macros or binaries.

Basically you want to
1. copy the 900nc binaries into the directory as stated in your link. This is for converting the 840k into a 900nc
2. unzip the macros (http://astrosurf.com/astrobond/BERaw.zip) into the C:\Progam_Files\TWIRG\WcRmac\macros Or in the path where you installes WcRmac
. This is for allowing either 840k or 900nc to work in raw modes
3. plug your camera in
4. fire up your capture program ie k3ccd or qfocus etc
5. fire up wrcmac
6. BACKUP YOUR CURRENT binaries as per your link above
7-1. Load the binaries if you want to convert the 840k into a 900nc OR/
7-2. Choose the mode you want to work in ie optimised colour or raw colour mode

When changing to optimized colour mode etc, it is important to load the macro / mode and then choose frame rate (maximimum of 5fps for colour raw mode) and then press "restore default settings". you can then play with saturation etc from there!

Hope this helps

Indeed it is, but the optimised colour can give you a better shot in both good and bad seeing.

I've been using optimised colour for months now, i'm happy with it.

It's not a drastic improvement, but I'd take anything that will give me even a 5% better image. Especially when it's a zero cost 2 minute thing to do.

Is there anything different or additional in the process you've just outlined to the pdf link I've provided?

cheers

Well, I'm just a bit scared of stuffing something up. I'm not all that computer savvy. I keep reading the part where it says "WARNING!! you will kill your camera if you make a bluu!!"

When I first got a computer it became a tradition of mine to visit the computer store for it's weekly 70 buck reformat because I stuffed something up "look out! here comes passion fingers" they used to call me..

We gotta meet in person before I do the wild thing & move to the land of the big white APO refractors!

The main thing i was pointing out is there are two different things you can do.

I would follow your pdf link as it is very good for converting your 840k into a 900nc for using the yuy2 codecs etc.

steps 2 & 7-2 are only for changing the capture mode from normal to raw or optimised colour.

Couldn't help myself,

had to throw up a 14 SCT taken slightly after Asi's as a comparison.

Really shows Asi's processing skills comming into play. The detail on the C8 image is fantastic. Tried a enlargement of the GRS but my PP skills were not up to it.

Am a bit confused.

I'd like to install the Optimised Color mod... but when I reference the macro library in Wcrmac I see this option:

Set Optimized Colour (Non Raw) mode AND Special Factory settings.

Is that a RAW mod... even though it states it's a "Non Raw" mode????
