Ian, here are additional SMC objects I found with erroneous coordinates (probably copied over incorrectly into Excel).

1) HW 71se: 01 15 32 -72 22 50
2) Kron 68: 01 15 33 -72 37 24
3) Lindsay 110: 01 34 26 -72 52 28

Also, for completeness, a few aliases appear to be missing, such as HW 41 = K 42 = L 63

Hope this helps!
Steve

Hi Steve,

many thanks for that. It must have been at the end of a long night getting all of those R.A.'s mixed up.

My hard copy of The Extended Objects List for the SMC has HW 71 se as 01 15 33 in the R.A. It also doesn't show any alternative names for HW 41. Do you have access to an updated list, mine is at least 12 years old?

I will post an amended table at the end of the month to allow for any new errors to be identified in the mean time.

I just printed and laminated an A1 sized chart (about 80 x 60 cm) to take with me to our annual Stardate outdoor convention tomorrow. The stationery shop printed it a bit light, but I will get them sorted the next time I do it. All up including lamination was $24! They turned the Jpeg into a PDF for better printing quality. It should look good on the wall next to a similar sized version of the MCELS image of the SMC.

Thanks again for your effort Steve.

Cheers

Ian

Oops, let me try that again. HW 41 fine. But Kron 42 = Lindsay 63 at 01 00 35.2 -72 21 57 is missing from the table.

I happen to notice this as I made an observation of this object awhile back...

30" (6 Nov 10 - Coonabarabran): Kron 42 is a bright, very small knot, ~30" diameter. Contains a very bright core and a small fainter halo. A single mag 12.8 star stands out at the SW edge. Third of three in an obtuse isosceles triangle with IC 1642 2.5' W and IC 1641 4' NW. Located ~14' SSE of the center of NGC 346, the most prominent object in the SMC.

Hi Steve,

you opened up a can of worms with that one. Many thanks for that. Not only had I called K 42, Lyndsay 63 on the chart but I hadn't placed the initials IC before the two clusters from that catalogue, i.e. IC 1611 & 1612. I then spotted another wee spot west of IC 1612, H86-186 which I have now added. Before I moved away I noticed that I had also not labeled one cluster. This turned out to be B 98 which has a SW & NE component so I have shown it like that.

I've attached a couple of screen shots showing the changes if you blink them.

Once again thanks very much for alerting me. We'll get there.

Cheers

Hi again Steve,

just picked up another historic mistake. I had two B 98's. The northern one was the wrong one. The real B 98 is over 2 degrees further south. The cluster due south of IC 1612 is actually H86-188.

Cheers

Hi All,

the updated Version 5 is now on the Horowhenua A.S. web site along with the ammended catalogue. Once again many thanks to all who have taken the time to go over both the chart and the table and find the errors. I feel that we are getting closer to a finished result now.

Cheers

Ian
