My Weather Station is now up and working again
All I have to do is upgrade "Weather display"
I found that when I started up again my computer slowed down, so I cleared out the old Datfile and everything is running fine
I may one day still get my website up and running
Geoff do you still use weather display or something else?
Cheers

no need to remove "weather display" Ron

just don't start it up
start cumulus instead and do the station setup - then the internet setup when your ready

Hi all,

I've just read through this entire thread, fantastic source of
experience and hints people.

I'm impressed by the programming and FTP results of people's
webpages and would like to do that for here too...one day!

One feature I don't think anyone has touched on yet in the thread
and I'm itching to know.....can you use the alarms and
limits/ period of updates etc to make an accurate RAIN ALARM
at the first sign of light rain?....or does it take a few mm of
rain (which would totally soak a scope or laptop) before an
alarm sounds?

Ken G ...how did the Velleman prototype go?..was it a success?

I ask this because the situation I see myself and most others
ideally heading towards would be:

One of these 1081 weatherstations
running in the background from the USB of the dome PC.
Me, operating the scope/imager and weatherstation via remote
desktop from inside the house (or quite possibly another city)...
and me retiring to bed while the scope takes shots for a few hours.
Rain alarm would wake me up with an earth shattering alarm!

regards,
Steve

I tried reading this whole huge thread, but fell asleep. You look at the weather radar on the net during the day to see if its worth opening up, you look at the sky just before you do to check for clouds and you go !. After that, the only thing that counts whist imaging, and only if your not in the obs, as Steve accutely alludes to, is the 1st drop or rain, to alarm or close automatically. Instant reporting of rain is the key, all else is superfluous, and thats not hard (a guide-loss alarm is handy to indicate cloud BTW, several Apps do that). Do any weather stations indicate one drop of rain, right now??, I dont think so.

I am not interested in the weather station for astronomical reasons, I am interested in the weather for my own pleasure

i liked the "look' of it better Ron - and it's free

doesn't have the bells and whistles like WD (yet anyway)
but it is a work in progress

there is a version 2 in the pipeline that will have a few enhancements i believe (like a database for records - that it doesn't have at the moment)

a little less hungry on the ftp side i think too

Geoff I am now using Cumulus, but I cannot get Weather Underground to receive the data
In your PM you said to tick Serial, I use a USB port, does that make any difference.?
Should I use "fine offset" instead of Easyweather datfile?
Cheers

I'm happy to say that I've had my site up and running now for a month or so and am very happy with the setup.
Very easy to install and run.

It includes a skycam and upates every 15 min.
