I have just recently completed building myself a couple of light boxes and I am very pleased with the results. If anyone is interested in me building one for them, PM me and I can discuss price etc, one thing is for sure, they are going to be at least a third of the price of imported ones, and IMHO work just as well. The two attached images will give you some sort of idea of my construction. My method of construction allowes the light box to fit over the front of the telescope/dew shield, much like a cover so one does not need to balance it on the scope.
I use a 12v lighter type connector for the power, and each LED is rated at between 6000mcd and 12000mcd depending on the size of the box required.
If interested please feel free to ask any questions.

I'd be lost without mine. I've figured out that since I got one of Peter's light boxes three months ago, I've used it for about 1100 flat frames. And increasing exponentially - I'm grabbing about 40-50 a night now.
Light box for 8" SCT arrived today , well packed and all intact. Just as well you sent the tracking number as they didn't leave a card ! but no problem it was at the post office.
Very nicely made, fits beautifully without need to cut out for top and bottom bars. With the telescope pointing straight up it sits nicely around the rim and the ends of the bars stop it from sliding down.
Very pleased with it, well worth getting you to make it, far better job than I could have done. Just need to put a little tab handle on it so I can handle it easily as I only have one hand.
Good Stuff Roger. Damn Aust Post they really are a pain at times. You should have told me, I could probably have constructed some sort of handle for you.
I am going to remember to measure the outside diameter of my WO FLT98 over the weekend, Peter.
I've been using your 8" SCT light box for too long on a camera tripod to steady it, would much prefer to just plonk it onto the scope itself, since I have tripped on that tripod too many times.
Now that must have been interesting using a 8" light box to fit a 4" scope, I bet it was flopping around all over the place. My email address: exfso2@adam.com.au
