All jokes aside folks this mob is a bunch of complete outliers as far as people of faith are concerned. They make nutters look respectable.

More info here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Radio

They have amassed about $120 million dollars from their followers to spend some, not all on misleading billboards. Some of these followers have left their jobs and sold everything to spread the 'message'. The phrase criminal con man comes to mind.

One of their beliefs is that all churches are run by the devil now.

He supposedly used complicated mathematics to arrive at his predictions. Where I come from we call it simple arithmetic. See bottom of link.

They have nothing in common with decent Christians who by definition follow the teachings of Christ.

It is sad that they even get publicity. It just shows the complete lack of quality journalism we have now.

Planking has about the same importance.

It'd be nice to think that one day mankind could progress beyond the apparent necessity to believe and cling on to utter garbage like Camping. I guess until then it makes for interesting psychology text.

That'll only occur when people wake up to themselves and start taking responsibility for their lives and their actions, instead of waiting to be "saved" by someone or something supposedly beyond their existence. Once people see through all the nonsense they've been fed and see it all for what it really is, then and only then will things begin to change.

Most likely not for a very long time, considering the psychology of the society in which we live. We might as well be living back in the 1st Century AD, for all the "progress" we've made since then.

The only thing that anyone can believe in is that the sun will most likely be coming up tomorrow morning - and even then, in several billion years, even that'll be touch and go.

To the twits who followed this criminal, who's tens of millions of dollars richer for your sheer idiocy, I trust that you've learned your lesson. You've sold your businesses and houses to give it all to this charlatan - or blown it all on luxury yachts and cars ahead of your apocalypse. Good move.

Am I being harsh? Sorry....

This thread has been let run but please remember there are mainstream believers of many religions in the forum. While you may not agree with their beliefs we ask that you respect those people regardless of a belief system and not disparage them or their belief as we would ask the same for you and your beliefs.

Thank you.

I don't believe that we're talking about "mainstream" here Paul, wherever that lies in relation to this. This is an extension - it's fundamentalist nonsense - where lives are ruined and people shattered because of (usually) singular perpetrators.

I would have to agree Chris, although not a Christian myself, I would think that true Christians would not believe they have to buy salvation, poccessing enough intelligence to filter the BS, although unfortunately the world is full of gullible people.

I'm just saying that some of the comments are starting to get a bit 'generalized'.
