2nd of October - Lack of enthusiasm?
Hi Geoff,
I guess some people may not be able to commit to Sunday, the 2nd of October as it is in the middle of school holidays, not to mention the long weekend. Some people may be holidaying?
But the main reason for me is that it is NRL Grand Final night. (Kickoff 7:15pm)
PS: Welcome Home Rick !!!

I could be up for the 2nd.
It all depends on how the aging body stands up to the start of cricket season on the 1st...

I'm still keen but have to realistically list myself as "maybe". The Boss is visiting family in the States so I'm burdened with domestic duties plus my own projects. Hopefully will have everything under control and will be there.
The weather is looking pretty cooperative at the moment... should have a few good clear (and warm) hours before the clouds find their way over.

Hey Guys!
Hope you have a great night!
Sorry I am an NRL tragic compulsive.
So I definitely won't be there.
BUT Don't forget to allow for Daylight Saving!
So the Sun will actually be setting at 18:57 ( around 7pm AEDT)
... so Kevin, that gives you an extra hour to get your brownie point jobs done.

Allan, doesn't the van have satellite TV? You may have to rectify that...
I guess it doesn't really matter... NRL isn't a real sport anyway. More of a cuddlefest...

Yes it does!
But it doesn't have a 65" HD TV.

I think I should let THAT one ... go through to the keeper.
Hope you guys have a good night.
The forecast looks really promising.

Now you're talking!
Anyway, have fun on your night in.
EDIT: Wait a minute! The grand final will be over by 10pm. There's still plenty of viewing!

Hi! I've not yet been to the PC, but Sunday the 2nd sounds like it could be a great night for a visit.
I see the pinned thread with directions, but is there anything else I should know before I rock up? If nobody else shows, is it open to the general public (i.e. can I still setup and observe)?
Thanks in advance for any information... I've been looking for a somewhat closer area to do some non-overnight observing.

Hi Richard,
The area is not open to the public. There are certain forum members who have a key to the gates and we are dependant on one of them being available. AllanL and Shano592 are 2 that I know of.
I was just checking the forecast, and it is starting to look not good. Cloud increasing earlier than it was a couple of days ago and with the sun now setting an hour later, I would have to make a call that I will not venture out. It could stay dry but the high cloud will ruin visibility.
Follow this thread and you'll be sure to find out when someone is planning a observing night. Almost always around the new moon. I would go more often but getting interest is a challenge sometimes. Hope to see you out the next time I can make it, keep an eye on the thread for a definitive answer tomorrow.

Thanks Kevin for the information. I've been wearily eying the weather as well. I will be sure to check the forum tomorrow to see what the consensus is.
Clear Skies,

Hmmm.
Cloud increasing after 7pm, up to 60% by 1am.
I don't mind heading up still, if the concensus is to go ahead.
The forecast yesterday looked worse, so things may yet improve some more.

I agree Shane, certainly worth keeping an eye on. I would say you have a better than 60% chance of getting in some viewing just after sunset. The low humidity is a bonus. In my very meager experience so far, it looks to me like it will clear up right at dusk and then start to haze up around 10pm. Last night was clear at my house, but atrocious seeing after about 9 pm, and that was the weather pattern I observed.
I'll still have to say not this time, committed myself to other activities when I saw the forecast.
Good luck! I hope it turns out nice. I know that it is typically well worth the drive when there are clear skies.

Yes, Acuweather is saying 65% cloud cover by the evening. Beautiful outside at the moment. Will keep looking in case the the forecast is wrong (probably not). Make a final call by 3.30 - 4.00 Shane (as your the key man). Sunset not until 7.00

If i'm using Cloud Free Night correctly. That is selecting the NSW map and dragging left to right it is showing cloud increasing by about 1600 hours. Yellow then Orange.

No show from Neil and Shane
Just talking to Shane who gave me a key. We agreed to give it a no show tonight so that people can get on with other plans for the day and evening.
As I am retired I will be happy to look at a wider window of observing on any given month e.g A Friday, Saturday, Sunday or week night may be suitable given a weather pattern or moon rising - setting window.

Thanks Neil and Shane! Too bad it did not work out this time, but I'm looking forward to trying it again in the near future. I try to get out to Wiruna when I can, but the time commitment is tricky sometimes.... so I'm very interested in someplace more local I can sneak away to :-)
Cheers and I hope everyone has a great night!

I don't think I can muster the energy to go up tonight.
Sorry folks....
I just arrived home at 4pm from mt Son's place at Penrith where I was installing ceiling fans and power point in his house. yesterday and today.
I am completely knackered.
I am ready to collapse and give these old bones a rest.
Sounds like cloud is predicted anyway.
cheers for now.

I just checked Weatherzone again, and the cloud is approaching and estimated to be here in a few hours. It looks thick enough to spoil a good night.
