I've found a bit software that might help for colour mapping and adjustment of images. At the very least it lets you play with hue & saturation so you can easily see what you want to acheive with other more astr friendly software.
From their blurb :
tintii Photo Filter enables you to apply color separation effects to your images with a few clicks of your mouse. The program automatically separates the color profiles of an image into a handful of major hues, and allows you to select the colors that you want to show or suppress with the help of small thumbnail previews that you can click on to apply the filter. You can stack multiple colors and also adjust saturation and hue settings to make the effects more intense or subtle. There is no need to trace around the outline of objects, apply masks, or be confined to a rigid set of colors spaced equally round the color-wheel. tintii Photo Filter is a standalone application but is also available as Photoshop plug-in at an additional charge.
Found it over at
www.snapfiles.com, do a search for tintii. Cost...free trial, $4.99 to buy and it's an Aussie company.
Been fiddling with it and with just simple slider controls you can add and subtract colours and their effects easily and immediately . Might just make it a bit easier to reach the colour balance you are looking for even if you only use it as a preview tool.
