Today I decided to run a little test with my camera. I focused on a distant tree and shot 3 different 30 sec .avi using three different capture methods.
1. Y800/Y800 After Debayering in Registax the colour looked entirely normal.
Should I have selected a different codec for the YUY2 test? Does this possibly have anything to do with white balance? I can't see how or why #1 and #2 would look fine if this was the case... Playing the YUY2 avi in different media players, and different computers/monitors makes no difference.
It's not that I'm anxious to use anything other than Y800, though at times I've had some strange issues with it in Registax, just that I'd like to know what is going on.
YUY2 + unspecified it what I use. Sometimes some manual tweeking on the 2 white balance sliders is necessary but I've found it to give realistic colours most of the time without adjustment.
"unspecified" seems the way to go. Image looks much better, and white balance improved it more. I'm surprised that changing capture method should make resetting the white balance necessary, but it seems so.
