It's green because it had lots of copper in it.

On the on the other had it could have been green as it was bright and green is the easiest colour for your eyes to see, right in the middle of the colour range.

this was in the perth news online this morning

Coloured lights could be seen in the sky from Bunbury to Geraldton around 5.30am.
Residents contacted the Observatory and the WA Water Police, looking for answers.

They described the colours of the lights as green, white and yellow.

Perth Observatory technical officer and astro-photographer Richard Tonello said the green flashes were a tell-tale sign of a meteor.

I would have thought it looks green for the same reason that aurora do, because the energy (in this case from the movement of the meteor through the atmosphere) is splitting the O2 molecules, which emit at green (amongst other) wavelengths?

Though that is a guess.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but saw one tonight, NW travelling downward (-El and westward) at 22:11 today. THink it was a meteor but oh so vividly green.. musta been a real bright one, only caught it for a glimps as it was low and went below the horizon after a sec or so... really traveling.

Thought it might have been an iridium flare but none listed (and it was moving so hmmm)

ANyone else catch one?
Jay
