Well it's not new but I picked up a 2.1 mega pixel camera (Cannon PowerShot A20) and I paid $60 for it. I don't know to much about cameras and I was wondering if anyone knew what these cameras were like. It seems to take some nice pics but I'd like to try it on the telescope for some moon shots.
What do you think.
Hi Ed. You've got yorself a little winner there. I have the A10 and used it to take my very first Moon afocals. 102mm refractor, 20mm eyepiece and the trusty old A10. Even does a moderately good job on jupiter (though with a shorter mm eyepiece). Check some moon shots out here http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ht=moon+afocal
I did a bit of a dredge through the archives and came up with these couple as well. Both afocal through the A10, using 2X balow, 3X optical zoom and I think about 15 to 20 mm lens, or any combination of the previously mentioned. (Didn't keep real good records in those days )
Thanks guys for the info, they're not bad photos at all are they Paul! When I get a chance I'll get it up to the eyepiece and give it a go.
I will post the pics if they turn out.
I will admit that those three are from literally dozens and dozens of shots that weren't anywhere near as good. But that's the beauty of having a digital camera. You can just keep clicking and clicking and trying different lenses and setups until you get something that your happy with. If I remember correctly the middle on I had two 2X barlow a 20mm lense and the 3X optical zoom going. The colour looked terrible (achromatic barlow) so I just greyscaled it (You can cheat a lot on the moon.) Its one of my favourite moon shots.
Ed, I can now say, "Welcome to the Astrophotography Club". Nice pics., Paul. Reading thru this, you reminded me about the optical zoom. Damn, I never even thought of it. Might try it soon. Ta. L.
