What next?

Well I've just scored a new job which I'm happy about, and as a little reward to myself I'm going to buy something nice for my telescope

I picked up a BT252 10" dob and love it. So far I've got the three stock eyepieces: 9, 15 and 32 mm. I've also got a meade DSI camera that for some strange reason needs clear skies to work (as does my telescope.. weird that), but apart from a laser colliminator, thats all I have.

What I'm thinking is maybe a red dot finder or a televue ring finder....

Whats people's suggestions for a semi-newbie?

Ta

Start using it as much as you can. Ensure you collimate each time. Plug that fan into some batteries an hour or two before observing, as summer warms up. Start watching out for better quality eyepieces in the IceTrade Classifieds below!

Go for a better eyepiece. It doesn't have to be a big dollar one, just better than the stock items. There are LOTS (most) of eyepieces out there that shame the stockies.
My BT202 came with 25mm and 6mm Plossls. I bought a nice Skywatcher 20mm, and a Meade QX 26mm 2 inch for WAY less than $100 each, and they are tons better than the supplied Plossls.

Cheers,
Jason.

Think of a Telrad to go with the charts found on the web and a cheshire eyepiece for collimation. Then use your scope lots before going into the eyepiece market.

(so far) Biggest improvement over here was putting the stock eyepieces in the bin and getting a 32mm Teleview for nothing on www.astromart.com - shipping should be $12 odd, don't let 'em tell you otherwise.

I picked up a telrad, but some rotton sod nearby bought himself a nice scope so there has been 8/8ths overcast for the past two weeks. Getting a bit annoying.

I've got a laser colliminator, so I'm right in that respect.

I'm thinking down the track a nice televue naglar... they seem to be the thing to go for.

Anthony,

Before you go down the Nagler path try a couple at viewing nights. They are a lot of money and you may not like them, personally I don't like the long focal length versions and prefer the Panoptics.

The best thing to do at present is to use your scope and get to know your viewing style before going down the accessory path otherwise you end up with lots of expensive paperweights.

Cheers
