Thanks Jeff, we drove up from Dunedin because the weather forecast was marginal for home, and the storm was already in progress during the day with the Kp forecast predicting a sustained event. Combined with the sky quality inland that meant a great show at night was virtually guaranteed (Dunedin did end up seeing them too, but with some cloud in between). The first beams started to appear while twilight was still well underway, leaving our boys trembling with awe. They had never seen this before. Also, photographing the Southern Lights while looking north wasn't something I'd necessarily expect around here.

Thanks Dave, yes I need to look into printing some of this stuff. I my defense, I do look through my archives often.

Thanks Derek, I think the S hemisphere, while usually underrepresented, actually had some of the best spots for this (as evidenced by the great images posted by other members), given the shortening/non-existent nights around the arctic circle right now.
