Hi Lars,
I was refering to the apparent aperature blades in your photo's.
You said all those shots were at f4.
At f4 you should not get this at all.
With regard to the tilt, I bought this lens 6 or 7 years ago.
I got bored with trying to eliminate the tilt with my 645 to EOS and NEX (Sony) adaptors so I have used it exclusively for terrestrial photography ever since.
I may have to revisit astro again with it one day.
Now I have to fix:
The aperture
What's deforme the stars
Tilt problem
Never any boring time when having astronomy as your favorite interest :-) But if I can fix all these problem my Pentax 645 lens will eat all other lenses to breakfast. I don't think it will be too difficult.

If you use step down rings instead of the lens's aperture then you don't get those sunstars.

Use step down rings to get to F5.6.
Your adapter spacing may be a bit off.
Adjust tilt first before working on the spacing as tilt can cause elongated stars but usually only in one corner or side. I use 0.1mm brass sheet and cut it with scissors into smallish pieces that can pack out the offending side.
Hi Peter,
Pentax has always had a lot of interesting optics. I had a lot of them.
Pentax 500 mm f/4.5
Pentax 135 mm f/2.5
Pentax 50 mm f/1.8
And now the Pentax 645 300 mm ED f/4 medium format.
Nice to hear your 300 mm lens is good for astrophotography.
Since last I have updated my Astroberry systems that control everything. Last update had an update of the auto focuser routine. It looks to do a much better job now (which wasn't bad earlier either).
Now I have bought another Pentax lens. Couldn't help it, the temptation was too great and I'm far too curious. It is a Pentax 645 FA 300mm f/4 ED IF, it's not often I see one for sale. It's a newer version of the one I already have and it's still being sold as new. If I have understood it correctly, it is made up of 8 lens elements unlike the older one which has 5 lens elements. Does not necessarily mean that it is better for astrophoto, there is a risk of poorer contrast.
Does anyone have experience with this lens for astronomy photography?
Yes, amazing lens..
Did you take those images at full aperture?
I have Canon 300mm f/4, but it shows quite a halo at f/4 (especially corners), I need to stop it down to f/5.6 (with external aperture) to have round, small stars.
Hi Bojan,
Yes I had always use it fully open at f/4 and full frame. I'm sure it could be a bit sharper at t/5.6 but I don't see any need for it now, better to collect more photons. My biggest problem now, I need more pixels in the camera.
I had the Canon 300mm f/4 earlier, a very good lens. But the vignetting at f/4 and full frame was a bit high for me. The built in focus motor is nice. I couldn't solve how to let the software to do auto focusing in that time, maybe now.
Built the motor focuser to the Pentax 645 300 mm lens was a lot of work, but it is done now and I'm very happy with it.
The Pentax 645 300 mm f/4 ED lens is a heavy piece of metal and glas, it takes long time to adapt to outdoor's temperature. I have done an analyze of the needed time to come in equilibrium:
