Looking for Image Processing Tutorials for students
Howdy,
I'm involved with a school observatory in SE Qld.
To get the students interested in astronomy, we have a OSC CCD camera to take pretty pictures of deep sky objects.
I have developed some basic image processing tutorials that guide them through image stacking in Deep Sky Stacker and then a five step process in Photoshop for Stretching, Curves, Shadows/Highlights, Sharpening and Saturation. Not likely to produce any Malin awards, but they give a reasonable result and are something that absolute novices aged 12-16yrs can follow.
Obviously, we hope that some students will be keen to try something more and we'd like to point them towards some video tutorials with more advanced Photoshop based image processing? The school has an educational licence for Photoshop and I'm not keen to burden them with the cost or quirky interface of PixInsight.
Can anyone suggest some tutorials from the web that may be suitable?
Thanks,
David Trappett

Hi David, you could try Warren Kellers webpage. He has tutes for PS and PI. I found them quite helpful when I first started AP with PS, although I have now moved on to PI. I'm sure the PS ones are still available but haven't used them in sometime.

I'm on chatting terms with Warren if you want an intro, David. Also Adam Block has some PS tutorials and I can provide an intro to him too.

Hi guys,
Does anyone have a pdf copy of the Photoshop Image Correction for Astrophotos by Jerry Lodriguss? I cannot access the Astropix site. I also checked The Art of Post Processing Astrophotography Images by Cory Schmitz.

Trevor Jones of astrobackyard has some interesting processing techniques with photoshop including per channel processing. I find that he’s quite quick with his run through though so it maybe something you have to watch, understand then translate to explain it to your students.
