Hi, I have an unusual problem with my mount - it will not guide or calibrate on the y axis. It does everything else admirably. I have tried both ST4 and Pulse Guide, MaxIm PHD 1 & 2 all with the same results. The only thing I can think of that may be relevant is I switched from ST4 to try pulse guiding in EQMod and it seems to have never guided in y again.
Well, I guess so. Hadn't really thought about it, really. I just know one axis does not move. I've tried testing it with move commands sent from MaxIm and X always moves the requested amount, Y does not.
I can slew the mount manually using the joystick or EQMod window, and Ive tried to both forms of guiding again and it wont move. I'm sure it is software related as the mount moves when requested all other times.
Okay, I see what you mean. Depending on the guiding calibration, a move in Y could involve movement in both DEC and RA.
I suggest you try a calibration in PHD2 and see if the same problem occurs there. This reports XY as NSEW, so is a bit easier to work out what's going wrong. This way you can also isolate whether it's something specific to MaxIm.
Are you using an EQDIRECT cable, or going via the handset in PC-Direct mode? It's weird that you can slew manually (using the direction buttons) on both axes in EQMOD, but that pulse guiding is not working on at least one. You didn't accidentally set the minimum pulse durations in EQMOD as too long? Given that it's the same issue in whatever guiding software, and was fine for ST-4, I'm strongly suspecting an awry pulse-guide setting in EQMOD.
don't suppose dec mode guiding is set to something strange in PHD ... you can actually disable dec mode guiding depending on what this is set to in your PHD configuration...
Hardware fault in either the cable or the mount. If you can get your hands on a spare cable swap that & try.
Otherwise its off to Bintel.
PS When I purchased an AZEQ6 last year the one I received was very defective and it was evident Synta don't thoroughly test them before shipping. Mine was replaced...
Fixed! I knew it was something I had done or a box I had checked.
For some reason, I have had the "Enable simultaneous RA & DEC corrections" checked in guide settings in MaxIm which has been what has caused the issues. It now calibrates and guides quite well for an AZ-EQ6.
How accurate it is I'm not sure, but it was guiding at RMS X axis 0.253 and Y axis 0.132.
