If you cant observe the lunar eclipse next week in the flesh, bookmark this page for a live stream/webcast of the whole event . The Moon and Sun are going to play with us a little before the big show off event on 21st
That seems curious Hamish as the eclipse is tomorrow morning, the 8th, with mid eclipse at 6:21am NZ time, 4:21 AEST. Regardless, I will arise early ( or stay up all night ) and watch the moons progress through the earths shadow.

Call me Lowell! :-) It WAS just red (no canals visible though) from being next to the horizon! Cloudy here this morning, hope it was nice for those who saw it.
The partial lunar eclipse photographed in Kununurra, Western Australia, tonight. This shows maximum eclipse at 18:21, 7 Aug 2017 UT (2:21 am on the 8th here in WA). Not a particularly deep one but worth staying up for anyway as I'm on break at the moment. Canon 650D & 200mm lens.

Great catch. I woke up this morning nice and refreshed feeling I had forgotten something... . Until next one.
Did manage to stay awake and watch and image the eclipse but was too windy to go to my favourite nearby park to frame the images with some interesting foreground trees etc. The images I did get all turned out slightly off focus, bugger ! is always next time.
