cable release issues with 50D/5D

I have a very long cable release for my 450D,its very long and was custom made by a forum member-works very well, never a problem.

I bought a cheap ebay converter cable so I can attach to the end of it,and can plug it into 50D/5D.However there is often an issue-the ebay attachment-sometimes work the camera, and sometimes it does not-I have to wobble it a bit-its very annoying.I have a photography project, where I need it to fire the camera, and not have to worry about if its going to work or not.

Is there a good quality cable attachment I can buy from somewhere, that can connect to the long cable that is made for 450D? I do not like remotes.

thanks for any advice.
