Ngc 986

[Stevec35 (Steve)]

This is a strangely neglected galaxy in Fornax. It's a struggle to find any amateur images of it at all and it's actually quite large and bright. Perhaps everyone just automatically goes to the Fornax cluster.

Thanks Greg. Maybe I'll keep binning RGB 2x2. Does seem to turn out pretty well and takes less time.

Well if I didn't know better I would have thought that was NGC 7552 in Grus, lower right in THIS image. Remarkable similarity, same size, same magnitude, they could be twins

Very pretty structure. You get a real sense of the rotation motion on that one. Looks like a spinning firecracker.

What a lovely looking shot of this galaxy. I will add that to my list. I am intending to also do NGC 1097 which is another barred spiral in that group.

Thanks Mike. Yes you are right - very similar to NGC 7552. NGC 1097 looks much the same too.
