The Silver Coin

This object has been on my re-image list for several years now. The last time I imaged this object was nearly three years ago and I was not happy with the result. The stars were elongated and the colour was not great despite the 7.5 hours of data that I had captured.

This image while early days might well be my last chance to image this object this year. If I get more data on it then I will certainly rework the data but despite the noise present I think this image works well.

Teh sculptor galaxy or silver coin as it is known is located in constellation of the Sculptor at a distance of between 11.4 and 12.8 million light years. It is a galaxy which is undergoing violent star formation. A wonderful galaxy to view through a large telescope it has good surface brightness due to its angle to us.

Nothing to say except it looks a lot bloody better than my efforts from a couple of months ago!
I like the colour a lot.
What is that odd slightly blobby looking star at abour 2 O'Clock in the image?

Very yummy Paul. Plenty of crisp detail and a sweet little sprinkling of back ground galaxies to top it off. Thanks for the view.

Looks alright Paul, certainly a good test image and a solid NGC 253 too

Not sure but I would say it is a galaxy behind a star. I checked Jason's image of the same object and he has captured it too and that was taken some time ago.

A great image there Paul, I like how one can really sense that the lower left half of the galaxy is indeed closer to us. Lovely colours too, thanks for the view

That's a very competent NGC 253 Paul. Extremely good considering the short exposures.

Cheers

Steve

Nice one!!

Took me an hour to find this beast last weekend. I'm very out of practise when it comes to deep sky observing

And hello Paul! I saw your award-winning Jupiter shots on show at Scienceworks museum in Melbourne with my step niece some months ago. Congratulations!!

Bit of noise in the faint parts but a great image nevertheless. Just bursting with detail and colour and big image scale.

That's a great Scupltor Paul. Beautifully processed.

You got your guiding issues nicely sorted I see.

Greg.
