Barnard 72 - The Snake Nebula

I was very happy to join other AAQ members at a dark site near Stanthorpe and, despite losing an hour of data to a dewed up lens (poxy cigarrette lighter socket), I did manage to capture enough data for the attached, which I am pleased with.

Scope: meade 80mm at f/4.8
Camera: QHY 12 (colour)
Processing: Pixinsight
Exposure: 10 x 10 min
Guiding: Lodestar +PHD

I sometimes wish for a longer focal length, but I do enjoy the wider fields too.

Chris

Lots of nice dust there, Chris! Good to see you overcame the gear problems.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Geoff the color I got from this first image with the QHY12 seems more vibrant than I am used to extracting from the modified Canon 50D. I do sometimes hanker for more focal length I must say, but wide fields can be very beautiful.

Cheers David, it is an impressive region of the sky and one we don't see back in England.

That's really very very nice. Only comment would be these area shots look particularly nice if you beef up that golden background star field.

See if you can enhance the golden colour a tad more.

Greg.

Thanks Justin - sounds almost Saganesque!

Ah, I had also thought of that and would attempt it but for one minor problem. I have lost the external disk on which the raw data was stored! Fortunately I had a backup of everything else, but that data was quite recent and not backed up

There are a number or interpretations of this sky area and I recon yours on the money. You could try it more golden like Greg says but it still looks excellent as it is

I have just realised that although I did lose the external disk with the raw data I do still have it on the laptop so I may try a further re-processing.

Lovely rendition of this target. Maybe just a bit more golden stars if anything at all.
