My first photos with D800E - Adelaide views

Here are my first trial of photos with my new D800E that I picked up today. All I can say is that it's awesome! I am super impressed with its dynamic range. Wow. You can see how much detail there is in the shadows, especially the ones taken looking into the sun. I'm amazed. These are all without any processing too, so they can be easily improved even more.

The view screen is great too - nice and large and bright and sharp. Another new feature I like is the two axis virtual horizon, and that you can set the Fn button to use it and little indicators in the view finder on the edges appear which instantly tell you if there is any tilt. No more crooked horizons!

Here's some examples, all taken with 14-24mm unless otherwise stated.

Colours are amazing

So much detail in shadows yet light areas aren't washed out

2nd image is a heavy crop of the first. Still amazing detail.

Great detail in shadows again

Good detail

Best example of dynamic range. Image looking directly into sun! My D7000 would struggle with this scene and have dark shadow areas.

Great shadow detail. Can even see the boat operator sleeping on the boat in the shade!

A quick shot of the moon with my 500mm f4 and TC301 (=1000mm), ISO 1600, 1/200sec.

Great shadow detail.
This is currently what Adelaide Oval looks like! Only the new western stand and the old scoreboard remain. Apparently will be used for the Ashes at the end of 2013 at reduced capacity with the 2014 footy season seeing all stands open.

More to come after my trip to the country this weekend.

Great shots Wayne.

Congrats on the camera.

Dynamic range on this camera is pretty amazing. I took a landscape shot shooting directly at the sun and you can clearly see detail in the shaded areas. Its one of the main points of this camera - class leading resolution with a nulled AA filter option and the wide dynamic range. Other areas I am sure are similar to the competition with less important pluses and minuses on both sides.

By far the most impressive camera I have ever used and it sets a very high benchmark to be exceeded in the future.

Greg.

Impressive details (as I've come to expect!) The compressed JPEGs don't do justice to the dynamic range these new sensors are capable of.

Really invigorates your photography when something this good comes along, i had the same thing when the k-5 came out. they are very similar in performance although a think the mighty k-5 has been bested

Brad - yes equipment upgrades certainly invigorate! Yes I've seen that review. Amazing huh. I still have the D7000 too which competes favourably with the K5 by the looks.

David - yes very true. Wait until I start playing around with RAW images and DR!

Greg - yes by far the best camera I've used too and I've only taken about 100 photos with it! My new lenses sure help too.

Just uploading my first astro pics with the D800E now.... amazing detail!
