Cunninghams Gap or Toowoomaba some suggestions please

Hi Guys here is one for the members who live in Queensland or even better South East Queensland, or for anyone the knows the answer I suppose.

We are in Tenterfield at the moment and tomorrow we head for Brisbane, now which is the better route for a very heavy Rig like ours, all up 9.5 Tonne.

Would Cunningham's Gap be OK or would going through Toowoomaba toward Brisbane be the best bet, or are they both just as hilly as each other.

It really inst such a big deal i suppose as we have been up some pretty big hills of late, but i understand that Cunningham's Gap can be a challenge.

If some one may suggest a good route it would be most appreciated.

Leon

I'd go through Toowoomba and head down the Hampton Rd. It's the preferred route for people with horse floats.

Think from Tenterfield Leon its not so much UP as DOWN Cunninghams gap mate ... and its absolutley no challenge if you have brakes !!!

I suppose you've also considered the wind down the Bruxner Hwy to Casino & Lismore then up through the Gold coast to Brisbane as well.

I think you'll be fine no matter which way

Toowoomba range is shorter, but steeper - dual carriage way up and down. Cunningham's Gap is longer and less steep, but I "think" some sections are only one lane downhill. A lot of Cunningham's Gap was washed out in the big wet last year and it's been under repair for over 12 months.

Biggest load I've ever towed down those is a camper trailer, but I'm sure a sensible fellow like yourself wouldn't have trouble with either if you take it easy.

Well we came over the Gap today, seems you were right Jeff, no challenge at all, maybe if we were going the other way, who knows.
