Had a chance to do some bird photography in our garden,many different types of honeyeaters feeding in a 'Gravillea Splendor'.
I took this photo of this little fellow.I was only a few metres away from him,he was only about three inches long.Its amazing how close you have to get,even with the 'long lens' (a 400 mm L series lens).If I was any more than 7 metres away from these tiny birds,the images are really only 'curio or ID images'.I have done minimal processing.I might re do some masking to use some fill light in shaded areas.Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.Looking at purchasing Topaz this year to improve these type of shots,As I have tried a few things in CS5 and DPP but they never pop like Dennis's images.

Lovely image Chris. Rather than thinking about how to improve the photo with software (and yes, it has it's place of course), try experimenting with flash and flash modifiers instead. It's amazing how much you can improve a shot SOOC like this before you even bring it into an editing prog.
In saying that, I love your birding images mate. This one is no exception.
