Hi,

Just a quick question,
Has anyone ever ordered something large from the US, ie a 15" truss dob and had any dramas with customs?

Im thinking about getting a truss scope through astromart, but am worried about customs duty. I think the limit has increased somewhat as to the amount you can import without paying a duty?

Anyone had any experience with this?

wow that a big parcel to explain!! no the largest I got was a box shipped by land/sea that took 2.5 months to get here. They have relaxed the amount to $1000 now before GST ant Custom fees.....but they are asking more questions now...you may have to fill out a heap of paperwork to get it off customs....I know Bert also had some problems with paperwork out of customs.

Remember to add shipping costs to the total.

What a ripoff customs is.

First you must pay customs duty, then insurance, and then gst on top of the total amount of course.

Another tax on top of a tax!

Well if I get desperate I will just tell the Astromart guy to send the scope in 3 pieces, all 1 week apart.

Then each piece will cost less than $1000.

I've just had a Losmandy G11 delivered from the states. It came through Opt and I had next to no problems with delivery. I did have to pay the GST and customs amount for it to clear but I didn't have any paper work to do as opt and the delivery company dealt with it all. Mind you the cost of delivery and GST was the real killer compared to customs.
