Central Coast Pony Club lunar eclipse

Has anyone given thought to where we might go to watch (what we can of) the Lunar eclipse on 21 December?

I am thinking somewhere as North East as possible, yet not too far from home.
Because, It is a Tuesday night I think.
The car park at Norah Head would be good, but I think they lock it at sunset.
There is a nice Park at Swansea Heads?

Where are you going Iceman?

Alan, Crackneck lookout could be a thought. No gates to worry about. Would be actually able to glimpse the eclipse coming up over the ocean. Plenty of parking. A lot closer to home for many of us Central Coasties. Up quite high - could be better than lower sites like Swansea (+ could the park at Swansea have floodlights on?). Away from the light house at Norah Head. Not too sure if I can make it at this stage or where I'll be, but Crackneck could be worth a think about.

Yep crackneck sounds like the spot. I should be able to get there around 7.30ish. Might bring the binos and grabandgo scope. Plus a couple of refreshments.
Talking to Inmykombie tonight and he said he might be able to put in an appearance as well. See yaz.

What a great night. To the Pony Club crew good to see you again. I've posted 3 of the shots on the following link.

Glad you guys had a good time at Crackneck.

I set up Noah's ED80 on the front porch, and watched the whole thing unfurl with Pastis in hand. A nice way to wind down at the end of the day. The kids enjoyed the views, too. After watching the moon, I showed the kids Jupiter, which in the 7mm Nagler looked magnificent in the ED80.

nice spot that Crackneck

fancy me living 10 minutes away for the last 40 years - and never going there (until yesterday)

my highlight of the evening was a young fella (bout 7or 8) that took up our offer to the crowd there, to come look through the scopes and binoculars if they wanted.
this young fellow came back 3 or more times for a look - then wouldn't let his grandfather take him home till he had "one last look"

PRICELESS

i am a much happier person this morning knowing our little group is capable of imparting such pleasures to others

geoff
