servocat on 12" lb

Hello all, I thought I would share some of My servo-cat install. Servo-cat has never been installed on a 12 LB so here are some of the findings .
The base is to small for the az motor to sit inline like on the sixteen so The clutch spring needs to sit at an angle of about 40% to the motor.
The new center pin is larger in diameter then the factory pin so this must be drilled out, including the bearings. In addition the scope must be raised up in order to clear. I will update tomorrow with the exact height as that is on the list tomorrow. In the photos below we have the old center pin (2) this is the lower grounding plate (3) This is the completed az motor encoder setup UN-wired.(4) this is out of order but this is the LB with the old Argo Navis encoder. I will try to make more sence of this over the next few days bare with me.

here is today's work:
1) I found the height needed to clear the az encoder is 20mm. I used strips of 20 mm plywood screwed to the rocker board and bolted it with the old bolts. I then reassembled the whole thing, so for the most part the az motor/encoder is done.
2) I drilled and taped the alt belt wheel and started wiring the brain. Here is the photos

Magnificent mate, I can't wait to see and hear about the finished product. I've already started figuring out what i need to setup my SDM... Gotta buy Al a solar scope first though to pave the way.

OK today was incredible. I needed to make an encoder end attachment for the alt so Gery from wild card chipped in and made it happen. Just watching the machining process was too cool.
I still have an issue with the az motor spring. I just cant get the length or tension needed on the small base. I will update later. Anyways here is a shot of the alt motor and the brain mounted forward on the rocker. Big thanks to Gery.

Had to make some pieces to fit the LB and Gary (spelled with an A) at wild card helped out. The first was the alt encoder stop for az and the second was the alt encoder mount for.
PS I think I have solved the az spring issue!!!!

OK all done.
The installation is the same as the 16 LB with these exceptions: The rocker box must be raised 16mm,the servo box must be mounted on the outside and the az spring needs the mounting bolt on motor moved forward as there is not enough room to pull straight back. Remember the encoder wire no longer attaches to the encoder are (Like the Argo Navis) it snaps into the motor next to the power cable. Have fun and enjoy what your doing. Now I need to build a scope.

Fantastic Job. If Servocat Jr works half as well as Servocat Snr, you are going to have a great scope!

Hey, Stacey, we'll give that thing a real spanking up in the Mountains this coming New Moon, .

Nice work, mate. It's been good following your progress, and the excitement in your voice had been most noticable over the phone!

Let us know how the first run of it goes. The Moon won't be a hinderance for alignment and trying out a few of the brighter objects, even other stars.
