M8/M20 HaRGB @ 300mm

Hello all...
Old widefield stalwarts M8 and M20 again in the same FOV.
They get up to the zenith before the wee hours so that I can get my beauty sleep!
It's been really cold and clear the last couple of nights which has been great for DSLR high iso imaging.

Combination/blend of 160mins RGB and 120mins Ha data.

Canon 40D (modded)
Canon 300mm f4L @ f4, iso1600
IDAS LPS2 and Astronomik 12nm Ha filters
HEQ5 Pro mount
ImagesPlus, PS CS4

Higher Res...

Cheers for looking

Great colours Doug! I am always a fan of nice pungent hues.

Focus looks nice but could do with some deconvolution and maybe some highlighting of the dark nebulas that run though the area. other than that well done on a "old stalwart image"

Nice shot there Doug Plenty of neb, and I too like "extended" colours for some objects. Do you have the Ha component on its to show us? I'm curious given the colour sensor.

Great image Doug. It's time you got back to a telescope to blitz some images up close.

Re Ha:
I do Chris - I'll post tonight.
The Ha was a bit of a bleached out affair though at 12x10min.
I also have a 2min sub used as a mask that I'll post too.

Well done Doug, I like it, although the central core region of M8 maybe a tad too bright IMO and smothering the stars there

I have been considering it Doug - weighing up the CCD v's DSLR thing too.
If I went CCD it would make sense to get a scope - just too hard mucking about with adapters etc and trying to marry filters up with lenses!!

Ta Trevor - core suffering from overwhelming Ha blend I think. I don't mind it too much though - I like a little bit of power coming from my cores!
I always think the trapezium in a lot of M42 pics look strange and overprocessed sometimes.

That's a speccy image there Doug! With all that data, the image is yielding that fancy 'deep' look with intricate detail. Well done sir!

Thanks Michael. I've been reviewing the high res image on my crappy Acer monitor at work and it looks a bit soft to me - any thoughts?

Here you go Chris, here's the Ha files from my 40D and Astronomik 12nm Ha clip in filter.
