M8- The Lovely Lagoon

Hi all,
some clearish skies here.

Lots of little things that need to be sorted yet with the image train
Off focus to the left hand side.. not sure if this is the
way the MPCC is sitting in my draw tube... so wont mess with
the cameras adjustable front plate till the Paracorr & assembly rolls up...
Need my tax cheque..... NOW!!, for some 48mm filters!

Just used my previous Ha data to enhance Bok globules
and HII areas, didn't combine it to lum or red channel.

My light box hasn't happened yet so just did a bit of
vignetting removal in PS.

Love this nebula and am quite happy with the results this camera can produce for the small amount of time invested.

Link to the image is via my front page
http://www.baytop-observatory.com/

Thanks for looking.

Rich

Very nice Rich, Colour looks good with a nice depth of field. Looks like the globs are just hanging there.

Well done. I actually expected something horrid after reading your dialogue but it's very nice.

Top shot Rich. The sharpening on the Ha fronts is a little obvious but the details overall are remarkable. Gotta be stoked with the new cam hey?

Thanks Fred for the nice comments.
It sure is great to have a larger field to work with that's for sure! Don't have to enlarge my images to fit on my 24" mon any more

Thanks Marc.............. yeah, I know, may be a little too heavy handed, but thought it looked ok at 200%.... call it, ah, artistic license

Thanks all for taking a look and commenting.
Appreciated.

All the best
Rich

Rich,

Been over two months waiting for my Ha+LRGB set to arrive. Peter Ward's not got a reply from SBIG yet.

New scope coming shortly, too.

Looks great - there are bok globules in your shot that I've never seen before so the res is there. It's just that on my screen some of the Ha ridges are noisy. Don't know if it's the blend or clipping or something else. Having said that it's certainly the most detailed shot of the area I've seen here to date so kudos to you.

Oh man, that's a pain especially when you have the new camera just sitting there... collecting dust, clears nights passing by and you just wondering how the new camera will perform, how much more detail you will be able to pick up in comparison...
You are a patient man!

New scope...mmmm, what have you bought??

No drama Marc, not critiquing your critical eye, you're right that some of the HII ridge areas are a little noisy. I did push them for sure.
I'm looking at things on my 24"DELL 2408 at pretty much 100% and when I'm on line, looking at the new cameras images, they almost fit the screen horizontally, but need to scroll vertically to see the full extent.
My native res is 1920x1200, so I guess people with smaller screens and lower res will see things a lot larger than me.
I will have a look at toning things down, so thanks for that!

Cheers guys
Rich

Nice image Rich. I agree a tad oversharpened on some of the ridges, making it appear noisy.
But a lovely image nonetheless.

Thanks very much Mike,
have had a bit of time to tone down things to the sharpened ridges, hopefully a wee bit more natural look with the selective Gaussian blur.

Thanks guys for the input , will in future apply my final touches @ 300% in PS...

All the best for now.
Rich
