test eta shot with new cooled canon40D

got my "new" camera yesterday and managed to get a quick 55 minute shot of eta to test the camera on the 127ED

11 x 5 min shots stacked in DSS and processed in Pixinsight

Nice result David. Quite a bit of otherwise hard-to-get detail sitting in the ditch down the middle, in between the shore lines. Very cool! (pun unintended..)

Nice and sharp and great detail. Green in the background needs toning down though.

Greg.

I like Pink looks "nice" to me - might not be the correct colour but then what is ?

Wayne
done with flats , dark flats, bias, darks and of course lights LOL

On a sad note - the camera failed tonight when i was testing it. ERROR99 - but it was the shutter control that failed. Better off to find it now then later. oh well back to the trusty cooled 350D while i send this back for repair

Tell me as I am out of the loop with DSLRs but it seems to me that the 40D was a new highpoint for Canon in astrophotography. Did the 50D get any better or was it only minor tweaks that don't affect astrophotography? And there's a later model out too I think.

Greg.

i had an inkling that it could - especially after Alan's. I did ask Yun to extensively test the camera - i am not sure if he did or no so i wont comment on that. The main thing is that it has travelled several thousand miles after the rebuild and anything could have happened?

Now that is a nice image. Wow, that is right up there mate.

Your 40D is going to extract more of the performance out of your 127ED which is obviously a nice scope.

Greg.

as for the colour - i was a tad rushed at lunch and didn't pay much attention to the tinge - though i knew it was there i didn't realise how bad it was until i saw it on an uncalibrated monitor. i processed this on a poor old Toshiba core solo Satellite - but it does have a beautiful screen and is calibrated.

i might add that it was the power supply and not the camera that failed - i have since recitfied that problem
