Leo duo

Hi I tried to image the Leo trio with my 18" Newt. using a 6.3 sct reducer, at about f3 but could not quite make it all fit. still I was happy with the result considering. Taken with QHY9, total exposure time about 2.5 hours.

I attempted them @ 480mm and they were way off in the distance.

Fantastic shot, great details.

To my eye the colour is a bit washed out. It may be 2.5 hours wasn't enough but it could be the processing. Try darkening the background a tad more and work on saturation or curves of different colour channels. Also some noise pattern in the background - a set of black railroad tracks. That should've dark subtracted out. When was the last time you did your darks? They can change over time.


Round stars and LOTsof detail, you got your 18 inch going well. I'm jealous.

I like the detail in the galaxies. Maybe some more blue would help a little. There is a banding stripe right through the center of the image. Are you aware of this?

More data would make an impact on this image.

Thanks guys for posting a reply this was really just a test image for the F.R. and a quick processing job with screen brightness on its lowest setting while tacking subs of another target. The whole image is a bit bright making for a noisy background and washed out colours, I had not noticed the black lines from the bright stars as pointed out by Greg and Paul. This seems to be a over saturation defect? Looking forward to catching up David at SPSP hope the weather is as good as last year.
