Hot Air Balloon over Newcastle

Just after getting up, while listening to local radio they began inverviewing the pilot of a baloon as it drifted over the University of Newcastle, so out I went with camera and lens. Here is a shot, at ISO 1600 to stop camera shake. Full frame and a crop. Ancient technology was used to take the pic, the lens is an old Canon FD manual focus lens, bought 2nd hand back in the 1980s. I use a FD to EOS converter to attach it to the 450D camera. Pic taken from my driveway.

It was surreal listing to the interview, due to the delay redio stations use for live interviews, Id see the burner fire, then hear it on the interview 10 seconds later.

They landed it on flat ground near the Shortland Wetlands I believe. It was launched from Stockton Beach as a promotional flight for the baloon company.
