Jupiter 18th August first with DMK

Hi all,

The seeing here has been awfull for many months now. Seems ages since I got some good seeing back in April. The seeing here was rubbish, but saw it as a opportunity to get my first image with the DMK as a practice run.

Just shot with the 14" at P.F. for 40 seconds with each filter at 60fps.

A big thanks to Mike for his write up on how to process planetary images with a mono camera; without it I would have been lost.

Anyway sorry for the poor image, and hope for better conditions soon.

Hi Lester, I am sure the weather will turn for you and getting in some practice with your new equipment now will obviously be very beneficial for when you do have good seeing.

What sort of filter wheel are you using and how are you getting on with it. I have a manual filter wheel and find that it seems to help, orientating the filter wheel so that to rotate the next filter the rotator is nearly on top rather than on the side. This seems to reduce the risk of movement of the scope.

Hi Trevor, thanks for your comments. I am using a Atik manual filter wheel. That was my first ever avi run with it, when I get better seeing and can use a barlow will be the real test at higher magnification.

This is a whole new ball game compared to the DFK.

Wow you can get 60fps? Nice! The smaller image scale and extra aperture is the difference there.

60fps also capture a LOT more data that you have to process!

It certainly is a lot different than capturing and processing 1-shot colour images. I'm glad that my article helped you through the learning curve!
