Deep Sky Observing guide books?

I'm looking for a deep sky observer guide similar to Burnham's Celestial hanbooks, but one that's more up to date, contains descriptions for 10" (or thereabouts) scopes, and covers the Souther Skies. Are there any out there aside from the Night Sky Observer's Guide (which is not available over here and very expensive to import).

G'day Crusader

May I recommend Hartung's Astronomical Objects for Southern Telescopes, 2nd edition, revised by David Malin & David Frew in 1995, which lists 1129 objects, mostly for moderate sized scopes. The list covers DSOs' and Double stars and provides plenty of objects to keep you busy for many nights. The book may be expensive to import to Sth Africa unless you manage to obtain one second hand ( rare ).
Also I would recommend checking out the observing lists in the Projects & Articles section of this forum, there's plenty of material for us southern hemisphere observers, written and posted by dedicated and generous amateurs from south of the equator, many thanks to them.

God Luck & Clear skies

Jeff

Bright DSO for Southern Observers

It is not a book but you might want to look at these deep sky objects (DSO). http://picasaweb.google.com.au/dunlo...hernObservers#
The images are from www.wikisky.org and most are 56' by 56'.
